The following are the league rules of play as agreed to at the
2005 Art Quinn Memorial Golf League meeting on March 21, 2005. Any rules that
are outside of the USGA Rules of Play will be discussed below. With these
exceptions, AQMGL Players will follow the USGA Rules. Asterisked rules are
rules that do not fall within USGA Rules and are applicable only for AQMGL
play.
ATTENTION!!: NEW LEAGUE RULE as of the 2005 season Any players beginning their
round before the initial tee time of 3:27pm will forfeit his chances at League
Points for that day. This was agreed upon at the March 21, 2005 League
Meeting.

| 1. Scoring |
In head-to-head
match and medal play, each player should finish out the hole and not pick up
their ball until it is holed. In all other events, players reaching a score
of double par on a hole can pick up in order to speed up play.
|
| 2. Forfeits |
In head to head
matches, if your competitor does not show, he forfeits the match. You may still
play with other people who may be without a partner, but you win regardless of
how you play.
|
| 3. Lost Ball** |
We STRONGLY
encourage players to hit a provisional ball if there is a chance that a struck
ball is lost. If your ball is, indeed, lost, then your provisional ball is the
active ball and you add one stroke to your score. If you find your original
ball, the provisional ball is simply picked up with no penalty. If you choose
not to hit a provisional and your ball is lost, you have two options:
| |
A. |
Return to
the point of your last stroke and re-shoot your ball, adding one stroke to your
score (this is called "stroke and distance"). For instance, if your drive is
lost, return to the tee box and hit another drive. This will be your THIRD
shot.
|
| |
B. |
You may drop
your ball no more than two club lengths from where you and your foursome agree
the ball was lost (e.g. where it entered the woods, or the high grass, etc).
From this point you will add TWO strokes to your score. For instance, if after
hitting your DRIVE you discover your ball is lost, then rather than returning
to the tee box you may drop a new ball and your next stroke will be your FOURTH
stroke. |
| |
|
|
Rule B is NOT a USGA
Rule. It is being implemented here only as a means to speed up play. Rather
than having to disregard the actual rules of play, it is encouraged that you
hit a provisional whenever there is a concern that your ball is lost.
|
| 4. Lift, Clean, Place |
Before each game
(especially early in the season or after heavy rains), either Peter, Dave, or
Carl will make a decision regarding lift, clean and place. In such
cases, any ball in the fairway may be picked up, cleaned, and placed back in
the fairway. Lift-Clean-Place does NOT apply to balls that fall outside of the
fairway of the hole being played.
|
| 5. Plugged Ball** |
At any time during
play, a plugged ball (whether in the fairway or rough) may be unplugged without
penalty. Also, a plugged ball in the fairway or standard rough (not the real
tall stuff) that cannot be found is NOT considered "lost" and a new ball may be
dropped without penalty at the closest point to where the original ball was
deemed plugged. However, it MUST be agreed by the playing partners that the
ball was indeed plugged.
|
| 6. Rolling the ball ** |
In the fairway,
the "Preferred Lie" rule applies: i.e. a ball may be rolled a couple of inches
to improve your lie using the clubhead. In the rough, the ball may NOT be
rolled unless there is a danger to your clubhead from exposed rocks. Keep in
mind, your are NOT allowed to move your ball from regions that are MEANT to
have rocks - like a rocky outcropping. In that instance, you consider your ball
unplayable and you may move it no more than two club lengths (no closer to the
hole) and incur a one stroke penalty. |

play. |
