this year is a grand three day ! affair, rather than our traditional two day excursion (see below for options). There are some other changes as well in the clean, summer air for this year's mid-season outing. For one thing, there's clean, summer air. This season, the Mid-Season Manly Men move our annual trip from the city of Binghamton to the Village of Lake Placid in the crisp Adirondack mountains. Being mostly good conservatives, the Manly Men don't much like change, but, as our resident pinkoes Jack and Ferd say, "sometimes change is okay" (they also say things like, "sometimes people don't live right and its the government's role to make sure they live like we think they should"... but, hey, nobody's perfect). Anyway, even as far left as he is, Ferd sometimes has a good notion, and the annual mid-season outing is one of them. So kudos to Ferd for keeping this tradition alive lo these past 3 or 4 years.

At the Mid-Season, the objectives are three - good company, good times, and, of course, good golf - and in those three ways we always succeed (okay, the "good golf" may be a little shakey, but we always play at terrific golf venues). And, while the conversation can often run political, it never runs hot. At the mid-season we are comrades (or Komrades, depending on which side of Peter's van you sit), and we are oddly willing to accept the inclinations of our fellow golfers, even to the point where long-standing political and social tendancies gets blurred: the liberals among us relax, stop trying to tell the rest of us how to live, and might even smoke a cigar or two with some fine scotch, or port, or rich coffee (of course, due to some lefty shenanigans here in New York, these social and civil indulgences are banished to the outdoors. Happily, in Lake Placid outdoors ain't so bad: grand vistas, mirror lakes, mountain heaven, and fresh air enriched with the perfume of a fine cigar, ...and no crowding around a garbage garden watching the traffic pass by on I-88), while the conservatives among us do something that at other times would jar them to their core; they sleep with other men (in separate beds, of course, although a couple of mid-seasons ago, even THAT boundary was crossed... see 2003 Mid-Season Photos for the whole story). Now, keep in mind, the social morals of the left and the right kind of go the way of screws - lefty loosey, righty tighty - and for those of us who lean a bit to the right, not only don't real men eat quiche together, neither do they hug, hold hands, smooch, or marry each other... little things like that. Certainly they don't sleep together if they can help it. But, hey, at the mid-season, we do (again I heartily emphasize... in SEPERATE beds). So, I guess golf makes for strange bedfellows... literally.

Anyway, for this mid-season, we will be enjoying three - count 'em, THREE - terrific courses: all highly praised in golf course reviews as well as by word of mouth. (Some of us might even enjoy FOUR (4) rounds of play if our stamina is up to it, because the Lake Placid Resort gives you a FREE ROUND at either the Mountain or Links Course when you take advantage of their $139 golf special for two nights). You, of course, aren't required to attend all three days, but I hope you do because we always have a terrific time. And, regardless of the bit of fun I was poking above, the company of these good fellows - friends one and all - is something I greatly and seriously look forward to each season. We may not agree on all things political, but to borrow a phrase from the hated French,,, Vive La Difference (and pass the croissants).

Below you willl see the possible options for our mid-season outing this year in Lake Placid. The prices may be a bit steeper than usual, but not by much, and they're about the best we can expect in a resort area in mid-summer. The courses are all top-o-the-line... all VERY highly rated in Golf Digest (especially the Saranac course), and the lodging looks to be terrific (click HERE to check out the web site).

So, I need your response ASAP because I only have until the 15th of this month to adjust for our reservations before I am charged for them... so EMAIL ME. I will need to know by WEDNESDAY, June 8 (that's THIS Wednesday). Also, make sure that I am correct with the people I already have in place below... if not, EMAIL ME !! Thanks guys... I think this is gonna be a ball.
